ROCHDALE SUZUKI SPONSOR DIVERSITY DAY
May 20th, 2010 | by Simon |There is a veritable feast of rugby league at the Mayfield sports Centre today as Mayfield host the Rugby Football Leagues diversity day. The day is the brainchild of Paul Scanlon Wells who is an RFL league for all officer. His idea is to showcase the diverse cultures we have in our area and to get them involved in something together, in this case RL The fun kicks off at 12 noon as the Mayfield Masters team takes on an Oldham select masters team if last weeks masters is anything to go by it should be a cracking game played in a great sporting manner. All past players are invited to turn up and don their boots again for this game and join the likes of Andy Duffy, Neil Wood, and Steve Gartland who all played last time out.
Next up is the cross border challenge as Mayfield u16’s take on Scotland’s Ayr Knights this again should be a cracking game of rugby played maybe with a little more pace than the previous spectacle. The Knights boast several international players among their ranks so this will be a stern test for the home team but one which they will no doubt rise to.
3o’clock sees a match with true international flavour when the New Zealand masters play the West Indies these teams are both unknown quantities really but with the wealth of experience on show another treat for fans of the game is assured.
Last but certainly not least, for those not wanting a full contact game there is a tag rugby match kicking off at 4 o’clock with a Mayfield side taking on Rochdale Swarm again anyone who is interested is welcome to come on the day and join in.
Also during the day there will be what is a first for Mayfield, as they stage a display of Kabaddi, the 4000 year old Indian game. the game is a team sport that combines characteristics of both rugby and wrestling and is popular all over Asia. The display will be given by the Grange kabaddi club from Oldham where Mayfield Mustangs recently had their first taste of the sport.
The club will be open from 11 o’clock and there will be food and refreshments available. So come on down for what promises to be another great day of sporting action at the Mayfield Sports Centre, and remember if you want to play bring your boots.
Mayfield would like to thank the sponsors for todays event, the Crawford street based ROCHDALE SUZUKI.
