October 13th, 2009 | by Simon |National Conference league 1 - Heworth 12 - 41 Mayfield
Mayfield picked up their first win of the season with a solid 12-41 win away at Heworth. Sam Butterworth made his comeback from injury, but it was no one man show as the team stood up in the second half to play some disciplined rugby and put some great scores on the York team. Mayfield started brightly but mistakes resulted in them going behind, before tries by John Foy and Simon Moore, split by soft Heworth try, was added to by a Todd O’Brien penalty for the teams to go into the sheds at 12-12. In the first 10 minutes of the second half Simon Moore scored the try of the day and Sam Butterworth (2) added tries and kept the scoreboard ticking with a drop goal. Mayfield continued with some flowing and confident rugby, resulting in last 10 minute tries to Steve Wood and Ben Namalnatua. Sam finished with 4 goals, Aidan Gleeson got 1 for a great scoreline.
